Academic Advising at UR

The Academic Advising Resource Center aspires to promote student success through a positive environment that supports excellence in holistic and developmental advising focused on student-learning and engagement, as well as a commitment to a thriving student experience at the University of Richmond.

Academic advising should be an active and collaborative relationship between the student and their advisor. It should also be a formative process where advisors engage in thoughtful and critical conversations with students to help them clarify and align academic, career, and personal goals with their interests, strengths, skills, and values.

Making the Most of An Advising Appointment

Each student at Richmond should feel confident that their advisor is willing to provide support, encouragement, and referral to appropriate resources whenever needs arise.

The AARC works to provide faculty and staff advisors with all the tools they need to be effective advisors under a developmental model. Resources included in this section are intended to help advisors improve the meetings they hold with their advisees.
