Preparing for Your Appointment

When should you meet with your academic advisor?

You can meet with your academic advisor anytime, but you must meet with them before you can register for classes. The period of advising before registration usually begins one week prior to the start of registration. If you do not receive an email from your advisor requesting an appointment, please reach out to them.

What are your responsibilities during the advising appointment?

You share responsibility with your academic advisor in making the most of your advising appointment. Here are some ways you can prepare for your meeting:

  1. Respond promptly to messages and recommendations from your advisor.
  2. Come prepared to the meeting with questions and/or materials for discussion.
  3. Express your academic interests and aspirations.
  4. Learn how to utilize BannerWeb and GradTracker to track your academic progress and program requirements.
  5. Become aware and take advantage of the numerous opportunities, resources, and services on campus.
  6. Be open to exploring a variety of classes from different disciplines so that you can better understand the significance of a liberal arts education.
  7. Be proactive and accept responsibility for your decisions. Your academic career is ultimately yours to create!
