About the Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC)

Opened in August of 2006 as a result of the efforts of the “Task Force on Undergraduate Education,” the Academic Advising Resource Center was created to provide support for advisors and students at the University of Richmond.  We work primarily with advisors, providing resources, workshops, answers and materials to assist advisors in creating successful advising relationships. We also work directly with students at different points in the year, occasionally serving as a “back-up” for advisors, assisting new students in their transition to the University, maintaining the Undeclared Student Advising Program and providing a peer advising program.

Our mission statement is a fairly simple one: To foster ongoing relationships between advisors and students intended to encourage intellectual and personal development, engagement in learning, and a full exploration of a University of Richmond education.

Who are Advisors?

All full-time faculty members in the undergraduate schools at Richmond and some qualified University staff members serve as academic advisors to students. While some advise only majors in their programs, most advise both majors and students who have not yet declared a major. The staff of the Academic Advising Resource Center provides additional advising support for students and advisors, and a peer advising program works primarily with first-year students.
